Columbia Gas of Kentucky is ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2026 ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION GRANT
Columbia Gas of Kentucky is committed to being a trusted, innovative energy partner which supports strong and sustainable communities. The Environmental Action Grant (EAG) program helps advance this mission by providing funding
support for local environmental restoration and education projects and programs.
The EAG program — funded through the NiSource Charitable Foundation —
offers grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 for this one-time gift with potential for annual renewal. Priority is given to projects and programs that protect the environment and restore wildlife habitats in the communities we serve. Please note
that funding cannot be used for General operating expenses, capital projects or related purchases.
Applicants should find “Are you applying for an Environmental Action Grant?” in the dropdown menu in the introductory section of the application and select ‘Yes.’
Application Process
Opens: February 9, 2026
Closes: April 3, 2026
Notification: Late April 2026
Submission: Applications must be submitted through the YourCause form.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be a 501(c)3 or other non-profit as determined by the Internal Revenue Service and propose an environmentally focused project.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be assessed on:
- Reviewers: A committee of Columbia Gas of Kentucky stakeholders will review and score all submissions.
- Mission Alignment: Project or program must support the NiSource Charitable Foundation’s Environmental Stewardship Pillar of Giving, create potential employee volunteer opportunities and strengthen community action and education programs.
- Resources: Requesting organization should demonstrate financial capacity and leadership commitment
- Visibility: Request should have relevance and potential for positive media, and ability to engage multiple groups.
- Impact: Strong record of accomplishment, measurable outcomes, and meaningful long-term benefits will also be considered during the review process.
- Skills: Show a clear focus and ability to support programs to strengthen responsible use, protection, and restoration of natural resources.
