SMRP Rider Refund
Starting with August billing, customers will receive a one-time refund for a portion of the SMRP rider on their bill based on new rates approved by the Kentucky Public Service Commission in its Final Order in Case No. 2024-00328, dated July 24, 2025. The Safety Modification Replacement Program (SMRP) is an infrastructure improvement program designed to replace aging gas facilities and implement other safety measures to enhance the overall safety and reliability of our gas distribution system. The SMRP rider is the amount customers pay to cover costs associated with the program.
The refund will appear as a “Rate Refund” line item in the Actual Account Summary block of the bill. Refund amounts will vary based on customer usage from January 2, 2025, through the July 2025 billing cycle. Residential customers will receive a one-time refund of $.0052 per Mcf of usage and $.0029 per Mcf for commercial customers.

Natural gas cost
Effective with September billing, Columbia Gas of Kentucky's gas supply cost has decreased from $9.6340 per Mcf to $6.5809. This rate will remain in effect until the next regular quarterly adjustment in December 2025.
The Actual Cost Adjustment
Each quarterly gas cost adjustment is a projection of what Columbia Gas expects to pay for the natural gas it purchases for its customers in the upcoming quarter. That rate is derived from a formula that considers current and projected market prices, storage costs, and interstate pipeline charges.Although these quarterly projected costs are based on the most current data available, they are estimates. Since Columbia Gas does not profit from the cost of gas, these estimates must be reconciled to what was actually paid. This reconciliation ensures that customers pay exactly what Columbia Gas paid for their natural gas supply. The reconciliation is known as an actual cost adjustment. The actual cost adjustment may be applied as either a charge or credit, depending on whether Columbia Gas overestimated the cost of natural gas purchased or underestimated the cost. This charge or credit is embedded in the customers' gas supply cost.
The Kentucky Public Service Commission must approve all gas cost adjustments.
