Amya Catching DonationColumbia Gas of Kentucky today presented a $10,000 grant from the NiSource Charitable Foundation to BIA Cares to support the construction of an accessible home for Amya Catching. Amya was paralyzed in a drive-by shooting during a sleepover last year while celebrating her 12th birthday.

When BIA Cares, the charitable organization of the Building Industry Associates of Central Kentucky (BIA), learned that Amya lived in a split foyer home that wasn’t accessible for her wheelchair, they saw an opportunity for members to come together to build her family a home that would meet her needs. The one-story home is now under construction on Betty’s Court and will allow Amya to remain in her existing school district. Numerous local businesses have donated goods, services, and money to make the new home a reality.

“Amya’s story really spoke to our hearts,” said Columbia Gas of Kentucky President and Chief Operating Officer Herbert A. Miller, Jr. “We’re proud to be a part of a project that has brought together so many of our business partners and associates to make a difference in the life of a child who truly deserves our support.”

Those interested can follow construction of the home on Facebook pages from BIA Cares, A Home for Amya, and Columbia Gas of Kentucky.
