Columbia Gas of Kentucky and the NiSource Charitable Foundation have announced a $25,000 grant to support the construction of the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center. The center will be located in the new Cancer and Advanced Ambulatory Building on the UK medical campus.
The 550,000-square-foot facility, which will use natural gas, will bring together oncology clinics and support services currently spread across multiple locations, offering patients a more seamless, modern patient experience.
“We care deeply about the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Columbia Gas President & COO Kimra Cole. “This is an investment in Kentucky families — ensuring patients can access world-class care close to their own homes. We are proud that natural gas will help fuel this state-of-the-art facility as it delivers lifesaving care to Kentuckians for years to come.”
Kristi Martin, the Philanthropy Executive Director for Cancer Programs at UK Healthcare, thanked Columbia Gas for the donation to the cancer center, which will house chemotherapy infusion, radiation medicine, multidisciplinary oncology, gynecologic oncology, the breast care center, and hematology/bone marrow transplant outpatient clinics.
“The Markey Cancer Center is honored to receive this generous gift. Columbia Gas of Kentucky’s investment strengthens Markey’s mission to reduce the burden of cancer across the Commonwealth, especially among our most vulnerable populations,” said Martin.
This grant from Columbia Gas, a NiSource operating company, and the NiSource Charitable Foundation reflects the company’s longstanding commitment to strengthening the communities it serves. Through the foundation, the company invested nearly $340,000 in sponsorships and grants in 2025 to support local health, safety, and quality-of-life initiatives.
“We’re honored to be able to support the promise this facility carries to enrich the lives of countless people today and for generations to come,” said Reginald Fields, Executive Director of the NiSource Charitable Foundation.
