Natural gas cost
Starting with March billing, Columbia Gas of Kentucky’s gas supply cost will decrease from $7.8840 to $6.7859 per Mcf. This new rate will stay in place until the next scheduled quarterly adjustment in June 2026.
How Columbia Gas Adjusts Gas Costs
Every quarter, Columbia Gas sets a projected cost for natural gas based on what it expects to pay in the upcoming months. This estimate uses a formula that considers market prices, storage costs, and pipeline charges.
Because these figures are projections, actual costs may differ. Columbia Gas does not earn a profit on the cost of gas, so any difference between estimated and actual costs is reconciled. This process, called an Actual Cost Adjustment, ensures customers pay only what Columbia Gas paid for their natural gas supply.
The adjustment may appear as a credit or a charge, depending on whether actual costs were lower or higher than projected. It is included in the Gas Supply portion of the customer’s bill.
All gas cost adjustments are reviewed and approved by the Kentucky Public Service Commission.
