Columbia Gas of Kentucky, a NiSource Company, teamed up with Booker T. Washington Elementary School to make the dream of a new bicycle come true for seven kids in Lexington this holiday season.
Columbia Gas of Kentucky purchased the bicycles and helmets, and employees stepped in to assemble and deliver them to the school.
The local bicycle donation was part of an effort which resulted in more than 100 bikes being donated to kids across NiSource’s seven-state service territory, in partnership with local non-profit organizations.
“The excitement of the school’s Resource Coordinator, Monica Hall, was infectious as she helped us bring the bikes into the school,” said Lori Johnson, human resources manager for Columbia Gas of Kentucky. "’You guys are great! This is so BIG!’ she told us."
“We thought this would be a great way to give back to our communities and help those who are less fortunate and may not otherwise have the opportunity to have a new bike,” said Lisa Smith, director of communications for Columbia Gas of Kentucky. “This is the first year that we are taking on this challenge and hope to continue it for years to come.”
