Education

Columbia Gas of Kentucky is committed to building strong communities through support of a variety of educational initiatives.

Kentucky Scholars Initiative

Columbia Gas of Kentucky is helping to encourage students to strive to be the best with a grant to the Kentucky Scholars Initiative (KYSI), a program of the Partnership at New Cities. KYSI engages community business leaders to help motivate middle and high school students toward the kind of rigorous course taking that will help them succeed in college and the workplace and then, compete for tomorrow's best jobs. For more information, contact KYSI Director Polly Marquette at 859-321-6512.

Columbia Gas Minority Education Scholarships

It takes a special person to become a great educator. Unfortunately in Kentucky, far too few minorities – and there are many with the special talent and dedication to be great educators – are able to realize their dream of becoming a teacher. But Columbia Gas of Kentucky and area colleges and universities are working to change that.

Since the creation of its Minority Education Program, Columbia Gas has provided minority education scholarships at the University of Kentucky, Georgetown College and Kentucky State University, enabling talented minority students to achieve their academic goals and ultimately enabling Kentucky students to benefit from their outstanding classroom leadership.

Lexington Children’s Theatre goes to school

There’s nothing like live theatre. So, to ensure that more Kentucky students have the opportunity to experience this art form, Columbia Gas and the Lexington Children’s Theatre have joined forces to bring live theatre to Kentucky schools. Since last year, Columbia has sponsored in-school performances at middle and elementary schools in Ashland, Carlisle, Catlettsburg, Frankfort, Lexington, Mt. Sterling, and Winchester.

Back-to-School Rallies

Columbia Gas believes in helping kids get a good start in school and having the right supplies is important. Back-to-school rallies, held in Lexington and other communities, provide school supplies to thousands of children each year. We’re proud to join the many organizations who coordinate and contribute to these events.
