Columbia Gas of Kentucky field employees to receive AMBER Alerts in vehicles

LEXINGTON, Ky. – November 25, 2008 – Columbia Gas of Kentucky is adding more than 80 pairs of eyes and ears to the effort to keep Kentucky’s children safe. The company announced that, beginning December 1, AMBER Alerts will be distributed to all its field employees across Kentucky.

Utilizing the mobile data terminal (MDT) technology in every field vehicle, vital AMBER Alert information will be sent via email directly to employees.

“We are excited to be part of Kentucky’s AMBER Alert program,” said Columbia Gas of Kentucky President Herb Miller. “Utilizing our electronic network, we can immediately share this vital information with our employees across Kentucky, improving the chances of successfully locating missing children.”

Columbia’s field employees are trained in emergency response techniques, including effectively reporting important information to local authorities.

The AMBER Alert Plan was created in 1997 after nine-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas. The AMBER (America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response) Plan is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies and broadcasters to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases.
